Bill of Rights
First Amendment
- Freedom of Speech: cannot cause public hazards, be threatening or be hateful with implied threat.
- Freedom of Religion: establishment and free exercise clause
- Freedom of Press: cannot make up lies knowingly with the intention of harm
- Freedom of Assembly: can be in large groups to peacefully protest
- Freedom of Petition: writing letters to petition Government and/or get signatures
Court Cases:
Christian Legal Society vs Martinez- all students were accepted no matter if they were gay or straight

Island Trees School District v. Pico- could not remove books from school library just because they did not agree with the content

Virginia v. Hicks- could ban non-residents from public housing complexes if the non-residents did not have “a legitimate business or social purpose” for being there
Morse v. Frederick- did not protect a public school student’s right to display a banner reading “Bong Hits 4 Jesus”

Virginia vs Black- A blanket ban on cross-burning was an unconstitutional content-based restriction on free speech.

Watchtower Bible and Tract Society v. Stratton- requiring permits for political advocates was unconstitutional
Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire- first amendment did not protect fighting words which could lead to injury

Gidean vs Wainwright- ruled that states are required to provide an attorney if someone cannot afford one

Fifth Amendment
No Self-Incrimination, Imminent Domain , grand jury, double jeopardy and due process
Explanation: defendant was interrogated in violation of the fifth amendment. Overruled until there was a lawyer present

Miranda vs Arizona: overturned Ernesto Miranda's conviction for kidnapping and rape because he had not been informed of his legal rights prior to confessing

Third Amendment
The Government cannot force you to shelter soldiers in your home without your consent in time of peace or war.

No matter what gun control you have, if wicked people want to get guns, they will do so. They do not care if it is legal or illegal. Therefore, I feel we should have guns in order to protect ourselves. It is sad that this is the way the world works but I feel it is better to be safe than sorry.
