Lib's job as a nurse is always being rethought and always being picked on and seen as something less than a doctor. The social classes within the medical world show that women cannot be doctors.
Dr. Standish belittles Lib because she is a nurse and thinks Anna is delusional and requires to be forced to eat food.

Young female who has been exploited by the hierarchy of the Catholic church, and PAT and her mother. Anna tried to starve herself as a result of her damage with Pat and the fact that people ignored her led to her starving herself.
Exploitation. Male dominated society is because women are not part of the administrative society. Heightens exploitative and destructive nature of the culture.

Lib as an outsider can see how harmful the church is being to Anna. She has the potential to get Anna out of this mess.
