the market place. Thus the derivative is in the interest of
both parties in order to minimise risk and volatility of prices. Provides certainty. HEDGE RISK
- Speculation on derivatives is motivated by profit.
for example. Suppose you are not in the gas market. However, you expect the value of gas to rise in the coming months. Therefore you speculate this rise and purchase futures contracts. If the price rises you will make a profit as you will purchase at a lower price. If it doesnt you make a loss. Hence the speculative element of it
