Personal Values
family (unconditional love, support, togetherness)
Being the eldest sister in a family of seven I have always tried my best to be an ideal role model for my siblings.
I get a great sense of joy knowing that I am loved, appreciated and looked up to by my brothers and sister
I want to do it for them and proved that they can also succeed and pursue a career of their choosing
Both my parents had dreams of going to college and getting a career through their education, but unfortunate events happened that prevented them from pursuing a higher education
My parents have worked hard to provide financial stability, opportunities and above all they have demonstrated an undying love for me and my siblings that shows through their hard work, valiant sacrifices and words of wisdom
I want to prove to them that their sacrifices weren't for nothing and that the potential they saw in me was truly there and so this is what motivates me to be a professional who maintains good communication, relationships and comprehension and assessment about the those around me. And in connection to Dental hygiene I will strive to incorporate this mindset.

School / Education (valuable personal growth, responsibility)
In my pre-clinic and disease and prevention classes I have learned important models that contribute to implementing professional choice regarding dental hygiene. Even interacting with patients while taking vitals . These models include the Dental Hygiene process of care, Motivational Interviewing and the 5 key dimensions of culture
These models help me understand how to be sensitive, respectful, altruistic and empathetic towards individuals that I interact with whether that be patients, colleagues, friends and family.

I hope to attain greater sense of knowledge about Dental Hygiene not only to further advance my education but also implement my knowledge into helping other
Using my knowledge I hope to do volunteer work in underepresented, underserved communities. And I think to myself why not start back in my hometown Yakima, WA?
Being from a migrant farm working family I have future prospects of providing oral health care towards the large immigrant population in my hometown

Through my schooling I get the opportunity to learn about the many professional roles dental hygienist become a part of these include: Clinical, Corporate, Public health, Researcher, Education, Administration, and even Advocacy
My education from schooling allows me to get a better understanding of how to communicate with individuals of differing backgrounds
Effective ways and methods used to communicate with patients using motivational interviewing and using open-ended questions

Spirituality (Belonging, togetherness and peace)
I have a high level of spirituality. In that I pray for the welfare of others. Mainly for my family, friends and those who less fortunate. Prayer for me is a way to self-evaluate and self-assess what I want, need and hope for the future of others and that of myself.
When I pray i start contemplating on what I can do to help my family, what I can do to better their future. I also start to pray for a better way of living. I start thinking about what I can do for those less fortunate and how I can help the world.
I become conscious and aware of the problems many people may be faced with;for instance the death of a loved one, being homeless, drug addictions, having a disability that prevents them for enjoying the simplest things of life and many others which increases my level of sympathy for others.
This in all heightens my level of Professional sensitivity as I start become aware of the many hardships people may be faced with on a day to day basis.

Career (courage, opportunities, knowledge)
Much of the duties of what a Dental Hygienist entails is that of providing and educating patients on oral health care.
A Dental Hygienist must have good Professional judgement when assessing a patient. They must be able to "diagnose" existing or potential oral health problems so as to effectively treat their patients
I must be able to asses evidence based data, interpret this information, critically think about what such evidence means in order to make professional choices that establishes a treatment plan for the patient.

Friends ( love, support)
I tend to hang around friends who value the same things as me and also people who from cultures that differ from my own.
My friends motivate my professionalism by changing the negative attitudes I have towards myself. They provide for me the belief of Openness to Change. That life can be challenging at times but those challenges build my personality, attitudes, beliefs, and ideas solely for my personal growth and professional growth.
Thus enabling a fruitful way of living life that alternates between excitement for growth as well as motivation to learn from mistakes and the challenges I will encounter in the future
