Email Systems :email:
my.bcit.ca
Provides students with an email address (my.bcit.ca) while they are enrolled in classes or a program at BCIT. Required for use with ShareFile; can be used to forward emails on to personal email and capture general emails from BCIT system; downside of this email is that you lose it when you graduate and you may not have access to it over the summer months. #
Gmail
Gmail is an online cloud organisation that provides a number of tools and variety of features; Gmail can link to Google Drive, import and send emails from another account or URL (should you wish to use it as a business account in future), you will have access to it all year round and it does not disappear at end of program. Provides option for two-step verification and with proper security settings, is a safe and secure way to receive and send email. Google is an American company and your data is stored on servers located in the US. Account can be used to receive emails from my.bcit.ca and from learning hub for central delivery point.
Learning Hub
This is an intranet or internal system that allows you to communicate with participants in a class. This system cannot send out nor receive emails from external addresses. Important to set up forwarding account in Learning Hub so you receive emails sent to you and are notified of feedback and updates to course if you are not regularly checking your email in system. #
ShareFile
ShareFile is a cloud application that allows you to store and share files remotely. This application is accessible to you from any location with internet connectivity. The folders and files you store in this application will be accessible to you while you are enrolled in programs/courses at BCIT. To ensure you have a copy of your work, be sure to create a duplicate of files on a Hard Drive or in Google Drive. This tool can be used to share files with other ShareFile users or external recipients.
