Definition
Is a sudden and severe kidney infection. It causes the kidneys to swell and may permanently damage them.

Causes
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), Bacteria such as E.coli

Medical management
Administer antibiotics such as levofloxacin, ciprofloxacin and ampicillin

Pathophysiology
Pylenephritis results from bacterial invasion of the renal parenchyma .Bacteria usually reach the kidney by ascending from the lower urinary tract.
Health education
Increase fluid intake to at least 8 glasses per day to maintain bladder hygiene and improve void habits by always responding to initial urge to void.
