Types of Closed Casts
thum spica or gauntlet: may cover the thumb and may just be applied on the thumb to immobilise the thum
short-arm cast: extends from below the elbow to palmar crease. may be secured to the base of the thumb
long arm cast: extends too encompass the whole arm, elbow is immobilised at an angle
short leg casts: extends from below the knee to the base of the toes, foot is flexed at right angle and heel is fitted for support
long leg casts: extends on the whole length of the leg from upper third of the leg to the base of the toes, heel is fitted for support
shoulder spica: encloses the upper trunk, the shoulder and elbow
