Paget disease
-microscopically has been called mosaic bone
-chronic metabolic
-cause unknown
-more commoner in males over 50
-typically in the pelvis and spinal colum, and maxilla
-clinically increased interdental space, bone enlargement, pain
-radiographically patchy radiolucency/ radiopacity(cotton wool appearance), hypercementisis and loss of lamina
Osteomalacia
-Develops over a long period of time
-When in children usually a vitamin D deficiency/rickets
-when in adults usually associated with malabsorption syndrome, drugs, liver or kidney disease, and chronic use of antacids
-may be associated with certain tumors, perio, delayed tooth eruption
- fractures may occur
- can be hard to detect
-TX based on ID of cause
