Latinx: Latinx is a term that is "supposed to neutralize the Spanish language" because it is often highly gendered (Pelaez Lopez, 2). However, although trending in use, critiques of this term persist. In particular Pelaez Lopez wants us to think of the "X" as "a scar that exposes four wounds": settlement, anti-blackness, femicides, and inarticulation (2). The author claims that even though the X tries to be inclusive, culturally, we still exclude many who do not fit "traditional" standards, especially LGBTQIA people.
