Pre-Assessment for Physical Education Unit on Soccer :
Advanced
Based on the assessment, the students are very knowledgeable of the sport and rules. Most show previous playing experience.
Differentiated Instruction Activity
Student modeling and teaching
The 5 students with the most knowledge will engage in small sided games over the course of the unit. For example, students will take part in juggling, passing, and shooting drills.
These 5 students will begin to demonstrate and coach the Limited groups.
All students will engage in 7v7 small sided games.
Limited
Based on the assessment, the students have a limited knowledge of the sport and rules. Some demonstrate previous instruction.
Differentiated Instruction Activity
The teacher will work with the 12 students to better assess knowledge of soccer using coaching points with the Advanced group of students. Groups will first observe the small sided games. Then they will engage in a simplified instruction. Students will pair up and work together to gain strength in juggling, passing, and shooting drills.
Once there is progression, top students from Limited knowledge student groups will combine with Advanced group to enhance their understanding of drills and practice with other students.
Student Modeling and Teaching
The rest of the students will begin to demonstrate and coach the No Knowledge Groups.
All students will engage in 7v7 small sided games.
No Knowledge
Based on the assessment, the students are learning the sport and rules for the first time. Most have minimal experience and no prior instruction.
Differentiated Instruction Activity
The group of 5 students will work with the teacher in numerous small group activities. For example, the teacher will introduce the basic rules and objectives of soccer. Students will also have access to recent videos of the 2018 World Cup highlights to enhance learning outcomes. Weekly assessments will be used to track progress.
Once there is progression, students from the No Knowledge group will combine with students from the Limited group to enhance their understanding of drills and practice with other students.
All students will engage in 7v7 small sided games.
