PLANT RESPONSE
LIFE CYCLE RESPONSE
seasonal changes (temperature, daylength)
changes will be intervened by plant growth factors => enables plants to avoid unfavourable conditions to survive

TROPISM
Phototropism
Auxin - plant hormone, is responsible for tropic response in stems
-
-
Gravitropism
In Stem
when light is shone from the side of the shoot - it distributes unevenly - diffuse down the dark side - causing the cells on this side to elongate more than another - bend towards light
-
-
-
Auxin also has a role in the gravitropic response of root/stem - it only moves down the dark side of an illuminated stem
Nastic Response
Thigmonastic response
-
when the leaf is touched - strong disturbance causes the entire leaves to droop from its base - leaves fold due to rapid loss of turgor pressure. The disturbance message is passed quickly around the plant by electrical signals
-
some specialized plants trap and digest small animals or insects - obtain nitrogen - allows them to grow efficiently in a nutrient-poor environment
