Schneider Family Book Award
Target Audience
The Target Audience is school aged children in the United States. .
Recipients
The book itself gets the award, but the author gets the money.
When a picture book gets the award, the money is split between the author and the illustrator.
Establishment
The Award was endowed by Dr. Kathrine Schneider in 2003, but the award wasn't presented until 2004.
Frequency
The award is given to 3 titles annually.
Selection Process
After the end of ALA Annual Conference to December 1, the jury members will get nominations for appropriate titles. Then they will ask the publisher for these titles.
Around the beginning of November, a phone conference is held between jury members to create the consideration list.
Sometime in the midwinter, the jury will get together on an agreed upon Friday evening to select the winners.
The winners are then notified confidentially.
Then the plaques are presented at the ALA Awards Ceremony.
