Male

These are located outside the abdominal cavity, inside the scrotum, as sperm formation requires lower body temperature than normal body temperature
The testes secrete the hormones, testosterone
It has two functions - 1) it regulates formation of sperms & 2) it brings about changes in appearance seen in boys during puberty
The sperms formed are carried by a tube called vas deference that joins the tube that comes from the urinary bladder

Along the path of the vas deferens there are glands such as the seminal vesciles & the prostate gland

The sperm has a head that contains the DNA & a long tail that help it move towards the female germ cell
Female

They also produce hormone, oestrogen
When a girl is born, the ovaries already contain thousands of immature eggs

Fertilization

They travel upwards and reach the oviduct and fuse with the egg - the process is called fertilization
The fertilized egg or zygote gets implanted in the lining of the uterus & starts dividing to become an embryo
