Ageing continued
Yeast are used in studies of ageing as their cells are relatively similar to human cells and they are 'marked' every time they divide so is is easy to tell how old they are. They are also very easy to culture (in suspension or on disks) and can be cultured in much shorter times than mammalian cells. Yeast never have DNA methylation, only histone modifications.
Sir2 is an HDAC and affects ageing in yeast- research on Sir2 shows that Sirt2 is involved in histone deacetylation in at least 61 proteins. They alter acetylation patterns.
