The advisory from the Union Information and
Broadcasting Ministry to the media saysthat they
"may11 refrain from using the term 'Dalit' while referring to SC
Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court
only wanted the Centre to consider the question ofissuing such direction to the media and take a
suitable decision upon it.
Moreover, the l&B Ministry's advisory is confusing
as it uses the words "for all official transactions, matters'
About the term
National Commission for
Scheduled Castes disfavoured the use of term
It felt it as unconstitutional as belonging to SC is a legal status conferred on members, named in the list notified by the President under Art 341 of the Constitution
"Scheduled castes" is the most appropriate way to adress them
