Definition
A rare condition which is characterised by lack of normal calcium and phosphorus deposition in the bone matrix,This condition results in decalcification and softening of the bone.

Pathophysiology
Osteomalacia results from defective bone mineralization. This is a result of a lack of 1 or more of the factors necessary for osteogenesis: namely, a normal extracellular concentration of calcium and phosphate and a normal pH at the site of calcification.
