        This video goes to show that the unrepresentative depictions of Mexican people that are being perpetuated today by even the highest institution of America, are just the very same misrepresentations that have been recycled through american culture for generations.

        Caption reads "Luis Bracamontes, Illegal immigrant, killed our people!" which is very specific language. the phrase "Killed our people" implies that he is not us, not of us, not related to us. Different. If looked at from a dogwhistle perspective, this could be interpretted as "He killed White people". The emphasis on the word "illegal immigrant" is also a political dogwhistle, meant to imply a mexican illegal alien.

        Within a week, the ad was removed from NBC, CNN, Facebook, and even Fox News. Trump proceeds to blame media for unfair bias against his administration. Moral of the story is that racial tensions within our culture are on the rise as our president keep pushing hateful, dangerous and divisive rhetoric, using the exact same misconceptions that have always been around.

        Misrepresentations of minorities in the american media are not a new thing though. There are precedents to all of these racist campaign ads.
        
        Prejudice and stereotyping of mexicans became evident in literature in the 1830s, right around the time of the Alamo. This is also close to the time Texas gained independence from mexico. This is where the current denigration of Mexican americans is rooted from. From this point we move back forward in time.
        
        Now moving back forward in time, 1924 immigration law that implemented immigration visa quotas led to the coining of the term "Illegal Alien" and it soon became synonymous with mexican immigrants.
        
        With the media's focus shifting to the opiod epidemic followed by 9/11, the public concern began to shift again to drug dealers and border security, which lead to the growing prevalence of stereotypes associating mexicans with drug dealers.
        
        More recent examples of mexican misrepresentation in popular culture often take the form of "Memes". Memes most often are created and perpetuated by younger audiences. While this format of media is rather abstract, it nonetheless highlights that the stereotypes surrounding mexican people are still present in popular culture.
        
        1967 Fritos corn chips launches this caricature as a marketing scheme which directly referenced the mexican bandit stereotype perpetuated by popular westerns. One of the more famous examples of a stereotyped misrepresentation of mexican males.
        
        Though Bush denied involvement with the commercial, he later continued to use the weekend passes narrative to slam his opponent. He went on to win the election.
