Frankenstein (1st January, 1818)
The Shelleys were in Switzerland in 1816 with Jane Clairmont, John Polidori and Lord Byron, who proposed that they each write a gothic ghost story. Mary was the only one who completed hers, writing what is now frequently credited as the world's first science fiction novel: Frankenstein.
