Hirchsprung’s diseases
definition
condition of the large intestine that causes difficulty in passing stool , it is also called congenital megacolon.
causes
hirchsprung’s diseases occurs when nerve cells in the ccolon do not form completely. Nerves in the colon control the muscle contractions that moves food through the bowel. Without contractions stools stays in the large intestine.
Pathophysiology
Three nerve plexuses innervate intestine , the submucosal plexus , the myenteric plexus and the mucosal plexus. All of these plexuses are finely integrated and are involved in all aspects of bowel function including absorption , secretion , motility and blood-flow regulation. In hirchsprung’s disease these plexuses are absent and there is no control of the muscle of the colon contraction.
