Lumins' challenge
The customer range is small because the customer are mainly cosplayers. The market in Australia is small, most Australian have not interest of it
Have lots of competitors. such as Bunning, Spotlight, K-mart and Taobao. (cheaper, well known, accessibility matters, loyal customers, easy to return with no postage fee, face to face good service)
Many people think handcrafting require lots of time, money, effort and professional skills. They don't want to start it.
Lumins is a well known shop for cosplayers, but among the general public only a few people know it.
Customer concerns
Cosplay intermediate and senior players
Wanted to focus more time on the crafting process rather than searching the different materials
Hard to find right and high quality material
Pay more attention to the detailing and quality of their works
Limited opportunities to wear or display their work in public
General public
The complexity of product. some people believe DIY as a complex job
The way to find material. For the general public, they do not know how to find the material
The flexibility of their time. People who have no experience of DIY will concern about the costume making time and whether they can arrange their time flexibly
Cosplay beginners
Don't want to spend lots of time on it , 4 hours are enough for them
More unsure about committing to the crafting
Limited budget and worry about the waste on tools and materials
Lack confidence and be afraid of failure
Wide array of skills and patience required which make the crafting difficult for them
Scope
For project
At least 20 people interview
No hiring new staff based on current company budget
Practical solution based on the company's current situation
Mainly focus on the people who interested on cosplay especially for cosplay beginners. Other customers also considered.
Customer segment
Pop-culture conventions/events
Customers
Cosplayers
Schools
Clubs/groups
Parents (for children)
Other industries/hobbies

Primary outcome
Simple starter kits were sold on Madman Anime Festival to validate our solution. A creative zone was provided to allow customer handcrafting.
The starter kits made 25% sales for Lumins
Approximately 20 tables were full, people were queuing up for getting involved in the handcrafting activity
Nearly no extra money was invested into the new solution
People did handcrafting with their friends/family
More people knew Lumins
People who participated in the crafting process may continue do online shopping on our website in the future
