Cause of the Revoutlion
- France was on the verge of bankrupcy
- The royal coffers were depleted due to King Louis XVIs spending habits and involvement in the American Revolution
- King Louis XVI summoned the Estates-General to raise the taxes.
- It was an assembly including the frenches clergy, nobles, and middle class.
- It was the first time it had been assembled since 1614
- The estates didn't agree with the King and formed the national assembly
- They were supported by the mob
- The national assembly set up the rights of man.
- It states that "men are born free and remain free and equal in rights.”
- They also set up a parliament, which was called ‘the convention’, similar to Britain’s parliament.

Historical significance
- Bastille day is July 14th and it is seen as the French independence day
- It was the day that the mob stormed the Bastille prison, to gather wepons.
- It is now a public holiday in france
- The guillotine was something that made a big part of history due to the French revolution.
- At least 40,000 people were killed with the guillotine.
- It is now sometimes featured in Hollywood movies and it commonly is known because of the French revolution, which made it famous.
