Anxiety disorders
Becks Anxiety model
1. Stimulus
--> anxiety = stimulus triggered
--> different anxiety disorders = different trigger stimulus :D ! lol obvious haha
2. Orienting mode
--> basically direct pathway from thalamus to amygdala 12ms = fast perceptual processing
----> if matches template / schema of danger = activates primal threat mode
--> anxiety = heightened sensitivity to negative stimuli
3. Primal threat mode activation
--> activated by orienting mode #
--> consists of 5 schemas that if activated lead to threat appraisal
--> automatic/unconscious response
--> goal to maximize safety and minimize danger
5 Schemas
cognitive conceptual
--> schema about believes what is considered dangerous by person (through experience etc)
--> anxiety = more cognitive bias + heuristics
behavioral
--> activates freeze flight fight response
--> effective strategies reinforced (negative reinforcement cause takes away unpleasant stimulus <- connect to mowers 2 factor model!!) #
--> anxiety = exaggerated threat response
physiological
--> activates autonomous (sympathetic) arousal (heart rate etc!)
--> anxiety = catastrophic misinterpretation of it / negative evaluation

4. Cognitive Reappraisal
--> indirect thalamus mPFC amygdala cortex 19ms :D !! = super finely detailed processing of stimulus and reevaluation haha <-- link with orientation mode
--> highly processed information
--> main module where anxiety influences !! #
self efficacy / coping resource
--> in anxiety disorder ppl have lower self efficacy so has the opposite effect cause they think they cant cope with situation! (also lower perceived control of situation)
safety cues + ability to perceive them
--> in anxious people safety cues defined as immediate relieve from anxious feeling which is not health strategy
constructive mode thinking / analyzing rationally
--> thinking rationally about ourselves and the situation :3!!
--> coming up with realistic solutions that take counter evidence into account (blocked in anxiety) <-- but thats reappraisal T_T!!!

Normal vs Abnormal based on model
- orienting mode
- anxiety = more sensitive to negative stimuli
- threat mode
- anxiety = exaggerated appraisal of threat, misinterpretation of arousal etc page 52
- reappraisal
- anxiety = focus on low self efficacy, safety cues not taken into account, no constructive mode thinking, uncontrolled threat oriented worry, initial threat assessment = more salient
-
General info
Anxiety vs fear
- fear = automatic body response / arousal to appraisal
- anxiety = cognitive interpretation of that arousal
- response = cognitive, affective, physiological + behavioral
Normal vs abnormal states
- hard to define
- depends on individual (threshold)
- thats why dsmV always says impairs daily functioning as diagnosis criteria lol
:!!:Principles of anxiety
--> 8 of them page 36 :D!! #
things to look up
- sympathetic vs parasympathetic nervous system and differences
- sympathetic = aurousal (increase heart rate)
- parasympathetic = relaxation (decrease heart rate)
1. Model and how it works with substeps for autonomic and cognitive reappraisal!!
2. how model works to distinguish between normal and actual anxiety disorder
3. maybe 12 hypothesis but no really
4. read some about panic vs OCD for research proposal
Empirical evidence / hypothesis
--> hypothesis 8 to 10 = reason why people maintain anxiety :D!!
8 = threat bias
10= worry, thought suppression + emotion suppression :D!!
