Increased risk of post op complications (laryngospasm, bronchospasm, breath holding, oxygen desat) - usually manageable with no log term issues
Complicated infection - postpone elective surgery by 4 weeks (purulent secretions, productive cough, temp >38, signs of pulmonary involvement

Additional RFs to consider: asthma, need intubation, smoking, prem, OSA, underlying conditions

Pneumonia - pre op

Surgery: highest risk in major thoracic, oesophageal or upper abdo surg.
Optimisation: Abx, physio, oxygen, bronchodilators, avoid sedatives

Often dehydrated and renal insuff, but need to avoid over hydration (GDT)
