Causes
Caused by an allergic reaction mainly by drugs (eG NSADS)

Common Findings and Assessments
History of allergy to certain drugs
Labarotory urine studies may reveal leukocytes and eosinophils Renal Biopsy may show intense inflammation around tubules

Withdrawal of drug or substance that is the cause Allow for recovery Administer a corticosteriod such as prednisone at a ratio of 1mg/kg/day

Kidney Diseases (eg. Pyelonephritis )

Symptoms

pain in the pelvis

pain or a burning sensation while urinating

a frequent need to urinate

cloudy urine

blood or pus in the urine

pain in the kidney area or abdomen

swelling of the body, commonly in the face, legs, and feet

vomiting

fever

high blood pressure

Use fresh meats and vegetables instead of prepackaged ones. Prepackaged foods tend to be high in sodium.

Choose foods labeled “low sodium” or “no sodium” whenever possible.

Season your food with spices and herbs instead of sodium-blended seasonings or salt.

Always keep hydrated

Record accurate intake and output

Administer Diuretics

Monitor urine specific gravity.

Weigh daily at the same time of the day.

Monitor heart rate and Bp.

Elevate edematous body part.

Monitor serum sodium.

Initiation Tubular cells begin to loose concentrating ability

Oliguric Tubular epithelium lost so there is reabsorption of most of the glomerular filtrate

Diuretic Regenerating epithelium cant yet reabsorb

having an immune system disease, such as lupus

taking too many antibiotics or pain medications

recent surgery of the urinary tract
