Gender Discrimination
In India
-
-
In schools, girls perform as well as boys and better than boys in some places
But girls drop out as parents prefer to spend money for the boys' education rather than spend equally on both
2. Jobs: As a result of the gender discrimination in education, the proportion of women in highly paid jobs is very small
On an average, an Indian woman works one hour more than a man every day
-
3. Wages: According to The Equal Remuneration Act 1976, equal wages should be paid for equal work
But in most areas of work, from sports & cinema to factories & fields, women are paid less than men, even when both do exactly the same work
4. Sex Ratio: In many parts of India, parents prefer to have sons and resort to abortion of girl child
As a result, the sex ratio (number girls per 1000 boys) of India is 914 and is below even 800 in some places
5. Safety: Various kinds of harassment, exploitation & violence happen against women
