Analyse the Implications of Differing Perceptions on the Management of Collaroy/Long Reef Beach.
Surfers
The surfers wouldn't have to pay anything but would have to put up with the inconvenience of lack of waves at the beach or travelling further to surf at another beach
The surfers could surf at another local beach or put up with the change instead of protesting against the changes because the seawall is the best management strategies for the beach to prevent erosion so the beach will survive.
The Government may want to implement a seawall into the ocean to prevent erosion but this will affect the waves for the surfers leaving them unhappy which leads to protests and unwanted attention
Residents
One management strategy would be to build a seawall. The seawall will protect the coastline during destructive storms from erosion. The seawall will cost in the tens of millions but might be the only option.
Residents should realise the risk of building houses on the coastline and take into consideration management strategies to protect their homes.
It will cost a large amount of money to move the house back away from the coastline.
Local Government
It should not cost that much as a verbal educational talk will only cost there time.
It is up to the general population to fix the problem as we should educate those in government about the problems they are going to cause and how they are destructing the habitats and making the beach more prone to natural forces
The council allowed for the building of the surf club and other amenities were the primary dune should have formed.
Tourists
More bins could be placed on the beach and tourist should be told to dispose of their rubbish or be fined for littering.
The area may become off limits while construction to make a seawall or something else, would be going on. This would cause the tourists to lose the chance to visit the beach
Tourists are leaving rubbish on the shore which contributes to pollution and harming the sea life
Local businesses
The ratepayers should try to reduce the amount of waste that goes down the drain. Also not putting chemicals or oils down the sink would help.
This management strategy would not cost a lot, it would just be hard to manage and supervise. You would need a diligent approach by the community for the strategy to be effective.
Local businesses build close to the coast but also pollute the coastal environment and some businesses use the environments resources.
Rate Payers
The ratepayers upstream are polluting the waterways that come out at the ocean. This is causing mass amounts of waste at storm water drain exits.
