What were the affects of the Spanish conquest of the Americas
culture
lost for Spanish
The Spanish didn't lose too much in their quest of conquering the Americas but they had to kill a lot of the Aztecs which they had planned to use as slaves. This was a key part of the Spanish plan but because they had to kill them they then need to bring over Africans to be their slaves. The reason they need to kill them was because the Aztecs were trained to fight back and believed it was am honer to die in war, so they did back down. This was one of the main reasons that the slave trade was introduced to the Americas.
lost for Aztecs
The Aztecs lost their religion and the culture traditions that were linked to their religion. Some of these losses where good, such as no more sacrifices, but some lead to a lose of identity, such as bloodletting. They also eventually lost their cultural belief that it was an honor to die in war. Once the warriors where all killed by the Spanish the Aztecs forgot about their ways of life before the Spanish. This was also because they where so physically and mentally strained from the work forced on them everyday by the Spanish.

gained for Spanish
The Spanish gain respect from the pope for turning some of the many Aztecs to Christianity and giving them to the popes disposal ready for the next crusade this all would of worked so much better if the Spanish hadn't gone and kill most of the Aztecs causing them to be able to hand of less converted christens to the pope.

Although they lost there religion. They were then granted with another religion this religion was Christianity. This helped them to stop the harsh murder pit they called sacrificing to there gods. this also allowed them to have new rules set in place and gave them a new way to live.
what it means for us today
It means that we could of had another religion in the mix and it also means that sacrifices may still be going on and possibly the whole of America could have followed that religion. Being so close to the current USA the Aztec would have probably had a great influence on what happened to this area, which would mean that they ways things are all over the world would probably been very different.
The slave trade
#
what was the slave trade and
how many were involved with it
The Spanish got fed up with the bad Aztec slaves so killed them all and traded other things to Africa in exchange for slaves. This was to become know as the Slave Trade.
how many people were taken to the Americas
There was about 12 million African slaves sent all over the world and 10 million were sent to the Americas. This just shows the amount of work the Spanish wanted to do.
why did this occur
This happened because the Aztecs weren't the best slaves so the Spanish were getting annoyed at them, they wanted them to do more then what they were doing. So the Spanish traded goods with the Africans for slaves because the Africans were well known slaves and they would work really hard and where easy for the Spanish.
why did the Africans sign up to this
The Africans didn't sign up to be slaves, most of them were taken against their will and forced into the slave trade. Some where made to be part of it because they had something wrong but many where taken from their homes for no reason other than the Spanish need slaves and would trade goods for them.
Disease
what was a disease back then and how many were there in the Americas
Diseases back then are the same as they are now but back then they did have the medicine that we have and they also lived very close together and didn't have as good hygiene so disease would spread so much easy then what it does these days. when the Spanish came to the Americas they transported eight different diseases. The Spanish immune system was use to these type of disease so they weren't effected but the Aztecs immune system was not use to them so they suffered greatly. The Aztecs were affected by 8 new disease, the Spanish where only introduces to 1 new disease.
what i meant for them at the time
The introduction of the diseases to the Aztec lead to their down fall. Many of them died from the introduced diseases and the rest were easier to conquer because of their reduced numbers.
The Spanish benefited greatly from sharing diseases with the Aztecs, although it was not part of their strategy it was very important in their conquest. Without the diseases causing such losses to the Aztec population there war would have gone on for a lot longer and given the distance the Spanish needed to travel for reinforcements the end result may have been very different.
What does this mean for us today.
The spread of the disease has lead to people building up immunity to them and has led to scientist discovering cures for them. The introduction of disease to different areas was going to happen eventually and for us it was better that it happened in the past not in our life time. It can also be argued that the introduction of disease which helped the Spanish win had meant that our lives are they way they are, due to the trade, multiculturalism, salve trade and culture changes that followed.
#
One bad thing that introduction of disease to the Aztec means for use today is that there was a lot of knowledge and culture that was lost when the Aztecs where wiped out. The introduction of the disease meant that the Aztecs where destroyed relatively quickly and a lot of their culture was never past on.
trade
what it means for us today
The good thing with them transporting lot's of new crops across the sea there is bound to be people interested in that crop. This also allowed the spread of them all around the world. This meant that many new recipe were made and many new nutritious food was created so now we have many healthy nurtures food that we might not of had otherwise. Food that we think are traditional foods of certain countries, like tomato paste in Italian food, would not have been part of their traditional food before the conquest.
The trade routes required a lot of works in different locations along the route and on the ships. This led to people of different races moving around the globe and setting up new homes. Many arguments that occurred ended up becoming racial and ending in conflict. In some places certain races where deemed lesser people especially those used as slaves. But this has all lead to today's multiculturalism all over the Americas and Europe.
What it meant for them at the time
Spanish
One of the good things that occurred was the trade of different types of produce, which allowed variety in the food that the Spanish ate and gave the Spanish a lot of control because they had access to these new products that the rest of the world where keen to get. This meant they had many trading opportunities.
The difficultly in transporting all the produce such a long way was the main problem with the new trade routes. This cost many resources and men. There was the possibility of products spoiling in transit or disaster happening to the ship and it cargo. Their trade routes in Europe relied on them getting the goods from the Americas, so any delays lead to problems.
Aztecs
a couple of good things happened for the Aztecs including getting a second life with new and better laws and rules allowing them to become part of the Spanish civilization as slaves helping to produce crops and goods with out physical pain like blood letting and other Aztecs methods
with all this new produce and goods being brought of from Europe you would think that the Aztecs would be living the live, but no they weren't there we actually turned into slaves to help transport and look after the crops and goods. This left them with a physical and mental strain which caused them to feel very sore and angry. They would also very rally got to taste or use these products.
what were crops and trade used for
Just as it is today crops and goods were an important part of daily, whether it be the farmers, the sellers, the buyers or the family that eats or use the products to stay alive and healthy it was a necessary survival tool to everyone. When new produce come many people try them so when all these new foods and material came over from the Americas many people from all over the world wanted to try them and create new foods and goods with them. New raw material led to the invention of new foods and products.
