Overview: However, the Aztecs gave the Europeans many goods and foods such as; cacao beans, tomatoes, potatoes, sweet potatoes, tobacco and corn. This is a very good thing for the new world because if this didn't happen we might not have pizza, pasta or chocolate and other great foods. Potatoes are a great food to feed people because it can feed 3x the amount of people because it has so many calories. Also corn fed 58% of animals in that time. So if corn didn't go to the Europe meats such a steak and pork wouldn't be as easy to find and wouldn't be a regular meal today. Nevertheless, Europe also gave the Americas some new foods as well such as; coffee beans, peach, pear, olive, banana, citrus fruits, sugar cane and grapes. All this trading of goods was called the Colombian exchange and was wide known then and still is now. All the trading led to the wide spread population increase in Europe and it also sadly lead to the slave trade in Africa and the Americas. Because Europe got all of this new produce it caused a population increase because they had just received many new foods to feed people. They also brought over livestock such as; cattle, sheep, pig and horse. With all this new livestock around the Indigenous people it spread even more disease because the livestock would contract the disease more easily. Because the Indigenous people live very close to animals sometimes even keep them in their own house this meant that they were highly likely to contract the disease from the livestock. Also the pigs would eat the majority of the crops which left the Aztecs to starve and die of hunger. However some animals made daily life easier for the native Americans because the animals could transport things around the city, towns and farms and make it easier to travel around. Because the Aztecs gave Europe tobacco this meant they could 'treat' wounded soldiers in WW2. I don't think this really treated them though because more died of smoking than the actual war.
