Sexual Reproduction
Why Sexual?
-
In asexual reproduction, the new organisms are genetically identical to the parent
-
-
-
Since the variations are in living individuals, they do not have bad effects
-
Thus sexual mode of reproduction combines DNA from two different individuals to produce more variations
-
Solution
In multi-cellular organisms, the reproductive/germ cells have only half the number of chromosomes or half the amount of DNA compared to other cells of the body
So when germ cells of two individuals combine, it results in the correct number of chromosomes or DNA in the next generation
