Chapter 8- Identification of Operational Risk (2) Operational risk level 1…
-
- internal loss database is an essential prerequisite
- bank entity specific
- data collected specific to the size, nature and risk profile of the bank
- analysis of loss events provides important insights into the causes of large losses and information as to whether the failures in control are isolated cases pr systematic
- the loss database is the key input for effective ops risk mgt framework
- the loss database is the foundation to quantitatively estimate the bank's operational risk exposure
Internal loss data collection threshold
banks may provide de minimis levels below which the loss amounts are not collected or recorded in a bank's internal loss database.
selecting the level of threshold should be aware of the trade-off between benefits of collecting smaller losses and the cost of collecting such information
vary between banks, but the quantum should be reasonable and should not omit ops loss event data that are material
the choice of threshold for modelling should not adversely impact the credibility and accuracy of ops risk measures
