The Union Cabinet has cleared the
Personal Laws (amendment) Bill that seeks to strike down leprosy as a ground
for divorce by making amendments in divorce acts.
Under provisions of the Indian Divorce Act,
it is a legitimate ground for divorce(presently)
India was officially declared to have
eliminated leprosy in 2005, when 1 in 10,000 were found

The treatment for patients with multidrugresistant
TB (MOR-TB) is set to be transformed dramatically.
Recently, WHO issued communication, which
made important change in the regimen to treat patients with MDR-TB
MOR-TB, is resistant to at least two of the
first-line drugs.
All injectables are to be replaced with a fully
oral regimen to treat MOR-TB patients, andthe powerful alternative drug, bedaquiline,
has been included in the fully oral regimen

About India
As per WHO Global TB Report 2017, India
had an estimated 84,000 new MOR /rifampicin-resistant-TB cases in 2016, among
those notified.
At present, India is getting Bedaquiline drug
courses for free under the conditional accessprogramme of USAIO, which will end next
year.
With the drug becoming cheaper, and its
effectiveness and safety now proven, Indiashould look at switching over to treating all
MOR-TB patients with Bedaquiline
