Unfocused/Inattentive Nathan is a 4th grade student at an elementary school in Jakarta, Indonesia. His daily classroom struggles in English include: scattered/disorganized, needs frequent redirection/refocusing, appears confused/lost and he often doesn't follow through on instructions which leads to him failing to finish classwork and homework.

Data Tracking Systems: Diligently have Nathan fill out missing assignment forms and serve reflection time for accumulation of missing work as laid out by homeroom teacher. Use recently integrated ClassDojo points system to reward positive behavior and to track behavior record. Written record of meeting with parents as required by school policy.
After allowing 6 months for resolutions, move on to tier 2

Data Tracking Systems At this point, hopefully Nathan will have accumulated enough ClassDojo points to allow him to see the benefits of cultivating better study habits. Allow him to set some personal goals and rewards that can be achieved through point accumulation. Weekly mentoring will be during my office hour. Create a visual to do list that Nathan can check off. Additionally, set a coping session run by our school counselor for the group of students who normally attend my office hour.

Data Tracking Systems Currently at my school suspensions are the last resort, and it would also be my last resort as I prefer to keep students in their peer groups. Counselor referral has also been reserved for tier 3 as I believe Nathan's problems can be solved inside the classroom environment. Time out would be the first tier 3 action taken, in order to keep him in the classroom yet emphasize the severity of his situation.

Data Tracking Systems Currently at my school suspensions are the last resort, and it would also be my last resort as I prefer to keep students in their peer groups. That being said it could used here to emphasize the severity of the problem if missing homework is affecting their ability to pass my English class. At this point the reward system could be restructured and allow students to set their own goals and rewards to stimulate motivation. Lastly, I have included counselor referral as there may be circumstances outside of class or at home that need to be addressed.

Failing to Turn in Work I've chosen this one, because it's very relatable to what some students could use help with every year.

Use recently integrated ClassDojo points system to reward positive behavior and to track behavior record. Communication with parents is normally through their daily agenda book and would be used here. Writing students name on board with finish or recess is another option to motivate students. Lastly, taking away privileges like after school programs is another option and effective for this age group.
