        Brabantio rushed down, showing that he is extremely disproving of the interracial marriage.
    - - Pun on the fair meaning polite and light-skinned. This compared with black-skin and implied savageness reveals that all characters have a racial bias.
  - - - Personal pronouns and rhetoric make Othello sound arrogant. His ability to show self confidence is evidence that his achievements are highly praised and that his position as general is not impacted by his race.
      - The word 'tongue' has crude connotations and insinuates that Othello is mocking Brabantio because he thinks that he is higher.
      - Othello's arrogance is from the high praise he has received, meaning that he is greatly valued as a general, despite his race.
- - - - Othello is appalled that Iago would accuse him of such vices. The rhetorical question shows his defensive tone as he scorns Iago; the audience is made away through dramatic irony that Iago has succeeded in making him jealous.
        
        Othello's honourability forces him fake humility as an honourable leader would have faith and trust in their wife. Othello is attempting to meet society's image because he believes it will boost his reputation.
      - The "moon" symbolises the omnipotence of nature. It is ironic since Othello will eventually be overthrown by natural, jealous emotions.
    - - Metaphor of "sea" and "icy currents" to describe his hatred and lack of compassion towards Desdemona. He is angry at Desdemona for putting him in this position.
      - High modality words such as "never' and "keeps" show Othello's deep emotions of hatred in that he has made his final decision.
      - Clearly shows Othello's deterioration as a result of overpowering jealousy and hatred of Desdemona for jeopardising his desire status.

        After Othello has said this to Iago, he kneels. This doesn't just show Othello's trust in Iago but also shows the deterioration of his character's confidence and morals. Since Othello has been an arrogant character all the way through the play (as evident in the previous paragraph), his kneeling symbolises the destruction of this confidence and thus, the deterioration of his morals.
- - - - Iago's monologue reveals his personal plans and motives. Shakespeare's uses monologues to show that Iago sees a difference between reputation and honour. This sets him apart from Othello who does not know the difference.
      - The rhyme in "night" and "light" reveal Iago's mischievous nature in that he is treating the plan like a game. He is a typical villain who enjoys the suffering of others for their own benefit.
      - "Birth" means to start but in this case, it also means 'to control and provoke'. Also shows Iago's desire for power.
    - - Paradox further showing that Iago establishes reputation and honesty as two different ideas.
    - - Lack of speech as a dramatic technique. Iago's decision to not speak is his final attempt to be the most superior and powerful character at the end of the play. Since he has lost not only his honour, but also reputation, he has no choice but to be quiet if he wishes to maintain in power.
      - It is a desperate attempt showing how arrogance emerges when ones desire for social power is overpowering.
