Special Education Referral
Identification of Disability
Speak to the special education department about the student. This will allow the student to get the most help right away and it will help them have a better change to succeed in the classroom. Once referred an Individual Education Plan can be created which will help the student in all of their classes not only the one you are teaching
Talk to parents and make sure they are on the same page with the teacher. This is the key to truly helping those with with learning disabilities. Without the parents help these children can't succeed
Collaborate with common teachers. It is important to get on the same page with the students other teachers so that you can know best ways to help them and so there needs can be met. Once collaboration happens between the teacher, parents, and special ed department the student is set for success.

Reevaluate to see if the IEP is really helping and how well the student is doing in regards the goals and benchmarks set in the IEP.
