Soft tissue injuries (contusion)
Definition
a contusion is soft tissue injury as a result of a blow from a blunt object , resulting in rupture of small blood vessels and bleeding into the subcutaneous fat and muscle layers at the site.
Causes

Pathophysiology
pains, swelling, and discoloration which usually progresses from bluish/purple to brown/yellowish
Assessment findings and Symptoms
bleeding occurs into the surrounding tisue
pains
swelling
discoloration
Medical Management including Surgical Management
apply cold compressors
apply an elastic bandage to the extremity
elevating the area to reduce swelling
Nursing management
elevating the area to reduce swelling
apply cold compressors
apply an elastic bandage to the extremity
reassure the client that everything will alright
health talk
encourage the client to elevate the limb to reduce swelling
teach the patient to apply cold compressors in cases of bleed
