Events leading up to World War II

The Wall Street Crash occurred in 1929 and lasted for several months as people were not able to pay for their debt to banks by selling shares they had bought with borrowed money. The debt owed was higher than the amount of money circulating.
Rise of unemployment, companies closing. This caused America to ask Germany for their money back that they had loaned them, which led to the rise of unemployment in Germany and other nations.
The events in the Wall Street Crash triggered The Great Depression

Mass unemployment, business closure, widespread poverty, political turmoil and rise of political extremism
This triggered political extremism in Germany and led to the support of nationalism and the Nazi Party.

Thee Great Depression had many factors that caused it including an oversupply of manufactured goods, low incomes for lower class people, trade policies in the US discouraged foreign trade

The weakness of the league of Nations
created by America, they were supportive of it at the start but did not join it
many countries involved
The league of nations was created to govern other countries
they restricted people from invading colonies
Japan invaded China and was told by the League of Nations they could not do that so they left it. Japan needed to do this to build their economy
if the League of nations had taken action when Japan was first a threat, this would have prevented much of the imperialism that built up Japans forces

they opposed communists with force and Hitler spent a year in prison because of it. He then changed the way he gained support, going from forceful to more political
their political strategy was formed while Hitler was in prison after their initial efforts did not succeed.
America wanted their money back after the Wall Street Crash and refused to give the Germans any more loans and Hitler said that he would be able to eliminate unemployment.

Many joined right wing groups like the nazi party and friekorps
people feared a communist uprising
Soldiers thought they had been betrayed
lots of economic hardship and humiliation from the treaty
the German's felt let down by the government. The 'non-pure' Germans were blamed for not winning the war
1924 - 1929
The Nazi party focused on eliminating unemployment as a way to become elected.
When elected, Hitler stopped paying the fines and stopped adhering to the Treaty of Versailles
when hitler first came into power, the british prime minister met with him and talked but did not take any action because many people thought that he wasn't really doing any good.
he met with and formed treaties with Japan, Italy and Russia
