Males have only one copy of X chromosome, and as such, only have one copy of every gene = every X-link gene expressed in males
Females have two copies of X chromosome, so they can be homozygous or heterozygous = able to "mask" a recessive gene
Male Y chromosome contains very few genes, mostly involved in determining male characteristics
