organs of the abdominal cavity
spleen

largest lymphoid organ
located at ribs 9,10, & 11
arterial supply: splenic artery
drains through the hepatic portal vein by splenic vein and superior mesenteric
pancreas
exocrine and endocrine function
has 3 parts: head, body, and tail
arterial supply: 1. pancreatic arteries, superior, and inferior pancreaticoduodenal arteries
drains through the hepatic portal vein through splenic vein
large intestine
water is absorbed from indigestible residues of liquid chyme
large intestine consist of: cecum, appendix, ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon, and sigmoid colon
arterial supply: superior mesenteric and inferior mesenteric artery
branch from superior mesenteric artery: iliocolic, right colic, and middle colic
branches from inferior mesenteric artery: L colic, sigmoid, and superior rectal artery.
kidneys
remove excess water, salt, and wastes of protein metabolism from blood
internal components: cortex, medulla, pyramid, pelvis, major and minor calyx
right kidney is at the level of T12-L3 and left kidney is at the level of T11-L2
arterial supply: renal artery
drains through renal vein
liver
metabolic fx: 1. glucose conversion 2. amino acid conversion to glucose 3. bile salt formation 4. storage of minerals & iron
excretory organ
inferior surface contains: gallbladder, IVC, hepatic triad, quadrate and caudate lobe
arterial supply: hepatic vein
drains through hepatic vein, which does not go through the hepatic portal vein
small intestine
primary site for absorption of nutrients
3 parts: duodenum, jejunum, & ileum
duodenum has four parts: superior, descending, inferior (horizontal), & ascending.
arterial supply for duodenum: 1. supraduodenal 2. superior pancreaticoduodenal 3. inferior pancreaticoduodenal 4. branch from R gastroepiploic 5. right gastric
goes through the hepatic portal vein through the superior mesenteric vein
ilium mainly in the hypogastric and R iliac region
arterial supply: jejunal and ileal arteries
goes through the hepatic portal vein through the superior mesenteric vein
Jejunum is mainly in the umbilical region
arterial supply: jejunal and ileal arteries
goes through the hepatic portal vein through the superior mesenteric vein
stomach
prepares ingested food for digestion and passage into small intestine
4 parts: cardiac, fundus, body, and pyloric
has two curvatures: greater and lesser
arterial supply: 1. L gastric 2. R gastric 3. L gastroepiploic 4. R gastroepiploic 5. short gastric
