Causes of the Six-Day War
Conflict among the Arab Nations
Several bombardments and terrorist acts committeed against Israel by neighbours; retaliatory raids by Israel on neighbours - Syria, Lebanon and Jordan
Extent of Egyptian Aggression stands out - Nasser's FP
Again, regarding the Suez Canal aspect of the third war
It wasn't Nassar that wanted the extention of his action [explusion of UCEF] but rather his Vice president. He was primarily blamed for escalating the situation into a war zone
Stems from the
Lack of recognition/respect of Jewish sovereignty by Israeli neighbours
Violent intention of destroying ZIonism by Arab Nations
Resulted in Israel attacking first
Syrian Government in response to retaliation raids and the Water Rights Crisis
Research more about Syria's role and the characterization of the government's regime
What did Syria gain from increasing tensions of a third Israel-Arab war?
Isreal's perception that diplomacy wouldn't help them win the war to the extent they desire, therefore military victory was worth the 'consequences'
Combattants: Israel, Egypt, Jordan and Syria
Foreign Influence
Cold war
led to Soviet involvement in the Middle East [most likely to destabilize the area to switch control from the west to them]
War in Viet Nam prevented the two sides for collaborating to join a four power conference to desclate war tensions in the region
Britain's and America's attitudes towards the situation
Very lethargic towards the end, showing signs that no one has hope for peace at this point [self-fulfilling prophercy]
Several attempts in trying to retain regional power in order to maintain oil supply and influence
Vietnam war was prioritzed over the Middle East
France's behaviour
Armament sales - didn't stop between a time period, contributing to an arms race which exacerbated tensions in the region, but when war appeared immenient, they cut of sale of arms to both parties
They wanted to play "mediator" and maintained strong ties with both sides. Not strong enough to dissuade them from war tho
had a history of listening to "commitments", but it did not follow prediction of aid to israel, despite public sympathy towards irael over arab nations
De Galles' attempt to gain power and influence in the regime and for his own name without riskiing security of France [selfish intention]
It seemed that Foreign influenced had a postive net effect on the 1st and 2nd war, as it intervened and at least attempted to bring about peace. This was not the case in the 6-Day War, where all hope was lost prior to the eruption of the war
Constant supply of arms that gave pseudo-confidence to the Middle East that they've become the most powerful
UN incapability
It was unable to take action in the third war due to power structure that existed within the system - nations chose side, and usa and ussr's decision were extremley crucial in any decision made.
Could not come to a consensus for a action to be taken
Willingness of everyone to go to war - only perceived way to solve the issue
Impacts from local events
Suez Canal Crisis - The second war between Israel and its neighbours
National Water Carrier from Jordan River

Political maneovering and manipulation
Yitzhak Rabin and Levi Eshkol
But
why
are they consistently attacking Israel, since they presumingly started the cycle?
