Encouraging a healthy lifestyle
Problem 1 - Diet
Diet is a key concept of a healthy lifestyle, and the problem is that our diets our containing to much unhealthy foods. People are not consuming their 5 a day and not following the food plate diagram
Solution - a plate/bowl with divides
so each food group has a different sized section, according to the recommended intake of that food group. This means when preparing a meal, you can make sure that your meal is made up of the correct components and in the right quantities.
Materials
- the majority of the plate/bowl would be made of wood or plastic. possibly with a metal base to it. The wood could be cedar or balsa
Why
- plastic and wood (cedar and Balsa) are both light, and can easily be cleaned. possible metal layer on base so can be put on hot surface and wont get damaged
target market
- suited for any age and gender, possibly for younger people.
Why?
- obviously people eat at all ages, and we see unhealthy diets at all age groups. May be used more by children, as you can imagine parents purchasing it for them.
Issues
- the plates/bowl would have divides so consequently they would not be able to be stacked. consumers might find the product pointless, and unnecessary. Also would be fiddly and hard to construct, joining the wood pieces together would be difficult, as you wont want be able to see signs of the joints once finished
Benefits
- if plate/bowl is used correctly, the consumers diet would improve, leading to a healthier lifestyle and possibly weight loss
Problem 3 - people don't drink enough water
to achieve good health, you should be drinking minimum of 2 litres of water a day. But many people do not drink enough, meaning their bodies don't function properly. how do we know we are drinking enough each day?
Solution - water bottle with times of the day on the side
each time of the day, would be in the position of the amount of water you should of drunk by that time, and the bottle is clear so you can see. This means at any time of the day, you can check if you have drunk enough, if not you make up the difference
Material
- a see-through high density plastic bottle, or possibly metal.
Why
- its light, no chance of leaking, and is easily cleaned. It would be high density as that is the strong tough plastic that bottles are made of. low density is like a plastic bag, which would tear and leak. See through so that you can see the water level
Target Market
- any age or gender, as we all drink. most suited for somebody who maybe works long hours, and its easy to keep track or time, and how much they have drunk. And as they are busy may not normally consider if they are drinking enough.
Issues
- 2 litres should be consumed daily, and most bottles only hold, 1 litre so wont be able to cover the whole day. To hold the full two litres of water the bottle would be very large, I feel this would make it unappealing
Benefits
- you would be able to see how much water level is left in the bottle, and of course you know if you have drunk enough or not. And would be a aesthetically pleasing durable bottle.
Problem 2 - younger people lack motivation, to participate in physical activity
To lead a healthy lifestyle regular exercise is important, children should do 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise 5 days a week, yet some are failing to reach this
Solution - a trophy and medal cabinet
if a younger person was to receive a trophy cabinet, they would want to put trophies in it. and to do that they must play sport, practice, get better and then win trophies to go in the cabinet. so it motivates them to participate in physical activity. Also it would organizes and display the trophies
Materials
- the cabinet would be made out of wood, ideally oak or mahogany. some acrylic or metal could be used as handles, or covers to prevent dust reaching the trophies. Also some small circular magnets will be used which the medals are held to
Why
- cabinets are traditionally wooden, oak and mahogany have a great appearance. The woods are hard and durable, and easily attached together. Medal ribbons are untidy, if you implant a small magnet into the wood, it will hold the medal on to it, simple and would clearly display the medal
Benefits
- the consumer would hopefully play more sport. personally and I know others are the same as me and have their medals in a bundle, it would organize them and display them, along with trophies. Prevent them from getting covered in dust and possibly have mini lights, to give the medals/trophies a shine
Issues
- it would be difficult to make, and possibly would be short on time. Some consumers may think its unnecessary and shelf could be used. Most medals are magnetic yet some are not, this could be resolved with sticking magnets to the backs of them
Target Market
- parents, with a child about aged 12
Why
- although it would be for younger children, it would be the parents who actually purchase it. At the age of about twelve you would have lots of trophies and medals ready to go on display. At that age you may begin to drop some sports, but having a cabinet should motivate you to pursue some further.
Problem 5 - People don't exercise enough
the idea of exercise or working out is naturally unappealing. so people don't exercise and end up having a sedentary lifestyle ( a lifestyle with little or no exercise)
Solution - I pad that can attach to machines
- people enjoy watching television or playing games, and this is always viewed as bad. but what if you good put your I pad or phone in a case which can attach on to the workout machines e.g running machines. this means the idea of working out is more appealing, therefore encouraging exercise
Target Market
- any gender, age 14-50
Why
- people under 14 are unlikely to own an I pad or phone, and will not probably be working out. people over the age of 50 may be less experienced with technology, but more importantly will unlikely be working out
Benefits
.- instead of watching programs on television the client could, do some form of work like reading emails. so exercise can be done while multitasking with work. Also would be a comfy good looking case with good protection for your device
Materials
- case made off wood or rubber. clips for attachment, made from metal
Why
- rubber would give the device good protection if dropped, looks good and comfortable to hold. metal for clips as they are durable and strong, meaning it would stay attached in a fixed position.
Issues
- the sound from device could distract others around if in the gym. it would increase the consumers screen time, which is never good. Some people may just find it to be an annoying distraction.
Problem 4 - people don't have the time to exercise
- with our modern lives, its hard to fit in the time for exercise, so people just don't.This will then lead to a sedentary lifestyle which has severe consequences on the body
Solution - under the desk you can have some sort of mini exercise machine
, like an mini bike machine or pressure pads to step on. this means while working you can multi task and also exercise. would be a small and simple, for very low intense exercise
Issues
- would be very complex to make, and would take a long time. materials would be expensive to purchase
materials
- mixture of plastic, metal and rubber
Why
- metal and plastic would make it strong and durable, and wood be needed for the mechanics of it. Rubber uses for comfort, as you would be working.
Target Market
- adult who work at a desk for long hours
Why
- its made to be used at desk, and long hours meaning they would not get the chance to exercise at home
Benefits
- would be quite small and light so Is easily portable and can be taken to different places. it can be used in many different situations, and would also be comfortable helping you work.
