VULVITIS
DEFINITION
Is an infection/inflammation of the vulva that is secondary to other infections
CAUSES
Staphylococci
Candida albicans
Diabetes mellitus(glycosuria)
Poor hygiene
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
irritation brings by infection
inflammation is caused by infection
Urine and faecal matter irritate the vulva
ASSESSMENT & COMMON FINDINGS
Pruritis
Discomfort
Vulval irritation
Offensive Discharge
MANAGEMENT
MEDICAL
Low steroid dosage ointments are prescribed
NURSING
Sitz bath to be done with 1:3 savlon and water dilute
Application of ointments prescribed
perineal care
HEALTH EDUCATION
Advise patient to keep vulval area clean
Cotton absorbent underwear to be worn
Encourage good personal hygiene
Emphasise the importance of water intake
