ATOMIC THEORIES
The first person to propose the idea of the atom was Democritus Around 450 BC.
Around 1800 the british chemist John Dalton retook the ideas of Democritus.
Thomson a British physicist discovered in 1897 the electrons
Rutherford’s a New Zealand physicist discovered the nucleus in 1889
Nielhs Bohr in 1910 he perfected Rutherford’s model and answered why the electrons didn’t go into the nucleus
He made a model were electrons go around the nucleus at different levels of energy(orbit)
Erwin Schrodeinger in 1920
he used Heisenberg’s idea to make the current used model were we predict were the atom ought to b
Heisenberg uncertainty principle in 1927
7 it says that you can’t know were the atom is going to be at what moment
Schrödinger proposed the quantum mechanical model, which treats electrons as matter waves.
as we learn more about the electron's position, we know less about its energy, and vice versa(Schrodinger model)
Thomson made a experiment to prove its existence he passed an electric current trough a vacuum tube Thomson discovered that there were some electric current made of negatively charged particles the electrons Thomson made a model Plum Pudding Model were he put points representing electrons and the circule the positive charge area
Atom theory of Dalton All substances are made of atoms All atoms of the same elect are alike and have the same mass
Atoms join together to form compounds
He was a greek philosopher who thought of an idea of cutting an apple in half until he couldn't cut it. He called this atomos.
All substances are made of atoms
