Static Electricity
Uniform Electric fields

Note:
-
-
1) The plate that is connected to the positive terminal of the battery becomes positively charged and the one connected to negative terminal becomes negatively charged.
-
Positive charge will always move in the direction of the electric field while a negative charge will always move against the electric field direction

Work Done
To place an electron in between the plates, work must be done. This is similar to raising an object to a certain height above the ground. The work done in moving a charge in an electric field will be stored as electric potential energy. (similar to gravitational potential energy)
-
-
The electric force and force of gravity act in opposite directions so it will cancel out. If the size of Fe and Fg ae same, they will totally cancel each other out. The net force on oil drop=0. When this happens, the oil drop will be seen to be stationary (not moving). To make oil drop stationary, Fe needed to be adjusted. This was done by changing the voltage from the voltage supply.
-
The electric field strength at any point would be same. Since the line spacing indicates the electric field strength, for uniform electric fields the spacing of lines must be even.
Magnetism
Magnetic Feilds
Right Hand slap rule
-
F=BqV
When a charge (q) moves with a velocity (v) into a region of magnetic field (B), it will experience a force due to the interaction of the electric and magnetic fields.
