Causes of cholelithiasis
Obstruction of the biliary tract, which causes stasis of bile

Pathophysiology
The actual cause of gallstones is unclear but it is associated with alteration in the balance that keep cholesterol, bile, salt and calcium in solution resulting in precipitation of these substances. The result of gall stones is obstruction of bile flow and inflammation and dilation of the gallbladder.
