Case Study: Parvathi
Learner Description
Strengths: Strong oral communication, willingness to participate.

Parvathi has difficulty seeing so she wears glasses. She does very well with activities that require oral participation but struggles with reading text on a page, usually because of font size. Parvathi lives with her grandparents, who are non-native speakers of English -- her parents live in India.

The Role of Diversity
Culture: Parvathi's teachers should make an effort to understand the cultural and linguistic differences that might affect communication between the school and Parvathi's family. Staff members should set up a conference with the family to determine the most effective communication methods that teachers can use to keep Parvathi's family apprised of her progress (Lee et al., 2018).
Disability: Parvathi should not be made to feel singled out from her peers. The suggested assistive technology tools are predominantly apps that can be downloaded onto an iPad. Using an iPad in her classes, Parvathi will have access to a wide variety of tools while not being stigmatized, as tablets are commonplace both in and out of the classroom.
