Tree planting
EYLF
Outcome 1
-
Children can go on a nature hunt to look for trees and parts such as leaves, sand, soil etc
Children can learn how to look after their own nature environments. Pack away toys, sand pit items, rubbish in the bin, remove weeds and help with the gardening
Children can learn about recycling food and using a worm farm to water their garden beds and trees within their nature area
-
Children can understand why we need trees and the importance of having them, looking after them and planting them yearly. Why do we not have many trees? Why do we need to plant more?
Outcome 2
-
Tree planting can introduce and explore sustainability practices. Leading children to understand why trees are so important- they help us breathe, provide shade etc.
Teaching children to look after their environment. How to nurture and grow trees can help with understanding how to grow other plants later on in life.
Use the natural resources for arts and crafts. To explore our nature areas and use sensory play to feel and explore natures materials and textures.
Outcome 3
Listening to the children's ideas. Starting from where do you think we should plant the tree and why? Is there much sun here etc.
Support hygiene practices, do you need to wash your hands etc
Watering schedule and tools, gives the children a chance to be in charge of watering and looking after the tools that help grow and maintain the tree.
Document the trees being planted, can have a child's name on each of the tree and they are responsible for looking after and ensuring it will grow. Enhances responsibility.
Outcome 4
Children can explore other words and math concepts without a heavy focus on the lesson. For example, the children can measure their own trees monthly to see how it is growing. This allows them to become familiar with mathematical concepts. The children can also draw the process of their trees growing development, working on their representation skills, art skills and communication skills.
-
Becoming healthy children, understanding how the environment works and becoming an active participant in their learning towards a healthier life.
Outcome 5
-
Express different ways on how to plant a tree- using tools, hands, watering etc
