Features of anaes machine that ensures safe gas delivery (MACHINE)
Maintenance
At least once/year
Accidental activation/deactivation
Emergency O2 flush must be protected from accidental activation (avoid overpressure and dilution)
An on/off switch must be present and protected from accidental activation/deactivation
Connections
Connections for medical gas cylinders, yokes and regulators must be pin indexed
Non interchangeable gas hose connectors on all gas inlet and outlets
If there is a fresh gas outlet, must have 22mm outer and 15mm inner diameter
High pressures
Display of gas supply line and cylinder pressures must be provided and visible from front of machine
When a high pressure gas supply system - must have O2 supply failure warning
Must have a high pressure relief valve or similar
Intermingling
If there is flowmeter bank: O2 must be the last gas to enter common gas manifold at top of flowmeter tubes. Oxygen flow knob must be the first from the left on the rotameter
If mechanical means to mix gases, must only have one control knob for each gas
If mechanical O2 knob it must differ form other gases
If machine can deliver N2O, must not be able to deliver hypoxic mix
If more than 1 vaporizer available must have a vaporizer interlock system
uNwanted
Anaesthetic gas scavenging system connections must be a different diameter from other connections
Emergency alarm
If a feature is enabled, an associated monitors and alarms must also be automatically activated
