A close up focuses on characters emotion. With the shallow focus it further highlights Jackie. The dialogue does not show him supporting Billy. These LFs reveals that Jackie is upset and angry, and this shows his inability to deal with his emotions- the grief of his wife's passing and the stress of the strike.
In this frame, the director uses low angle long shot to show several things. The long shot shows Billy and Jackie standing face to face, both with a strong and defiant body posture. The long shot also allows us to see Jackie inside the cage of the gym and they are standing on either side of a white line on the ground. This shows that they are divided. The low angle shows the characters are powerful; Jackie is powerful because he is the authority figure of the family but Billy is also demonstrating power because he is standing up to his father. Billy is demonstrating the courage to fight for his dreams
The motif of the cage represents being trapped. With Jackie being on the outside of the cage shows that he is trapped in his masculine views, and what is appropriate for boys in society.

The director uses a medium shot to frame Billy and Jackie together against an industrial backdrop. Through this technique we see Jackie and Billy... The industrial backdrop is significant because... The fact that they are in the cemetery is also significant because it shows Jackie finally being able to overcome his grief.
