Start by asking students what comes to their minds when they think of Fast Food Advertising for Kids. Anticipate what ideas they might come up with, like selling toys, movie ads, jingles, healthy food options, bright colours and happy feelings, family oriented, happy meals, food photography, etc
Discussions that come from watching these ads will be done in large groups. I would do these lessons from grade 3-5.
Once students are comfortable looking critically at ads, I would transition to doing small-group guided lessons. I might choose to look at print ads and get kids comparing print ads and the commercials we watched.
We would then come together as a whole group again and look at other types of ads, such as for toys, movies, video games, amusement parks, etc. Try the strategy of switching (gender, setting, emotions).
