How to Increase Employment 2
Educational sector
In India ~47% of the population is between the age of 5 - 29 years.
Out of these only 52% attends school
The rest may be at home or working as child labourers
To make these students attend school, more buildings, teachers & other staff are required
The Planning Commisssion estimates that nearly 20 lakh jobs can be created in the education sector alone
Health care sector
To improve health care in India, we need more doctors, nurses etc to work in rural areas
Other Areas
Every state or region can increase employment through tourism, regional craft industry or new services like IT
The Planning commission estimates that if tourism is improved, every year it could generate employment to more than 35 lakh people
Role of NREGA 2005
NREGA stands for National Rural Employment Guarantee Act
To generate employment short term, the central government of India implemented the
Right to Work
law in 200 districts of India
It was further extended to an additional 130 districts
The remaining districts were brought under the Act from 1st April 2005 and is called NREGA 2005
Under NREGA 2005, all those who are able to and are in need of work are guaranteed employment for 100 days in a year by the government
If the government is unable to do so, it will give unemployment allowances to the people
Under this Act, types of work that increase production from the land in future is given preference
